Super Cup Stock Car Series Revises Schedule

As most everyone knows by now, the May 3rd, Columbus, OH event was unfortunately cancelled as a result of a pending rain storm. At this time, a make-up date for this event has not been scheduled.

In addition, series officials have decided to cancel the originally scheduled June 6 and October 25th events at Tri-County Motor Speedway. The series and track promoters were unable to agree on insurance issues and the races were mutually cancelled.

The result of these events presented a unique opportunity for the Series to revise its remaining 2008 race schedule.

Rules Changes Stir Up the Action at Bowman Gray

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) Some people love them. Some people hate them.
The 100-lap races for the Farm Bureau Insurance Modified Series at Bowman Gray Stadium are infamous for their hard-racing action caused, in part, by having the entire field randomly draw for starting positions.
But now in 2008, things will get even more exciting. Bowman Gray Stadium introduces a new restart rule for the 100-lappers – a new rule destined to shake things up, but also to allow competitors another great chance to advance through the pack.
The 100-lap races for the Modified Series will now use a double-file “choice” restart to determine the li...

New Tire Not An Issue in Myers Victory

Exiting the track with the trophy from the Tucson 200, Burt Myers had a grin from ear to ear.

Only a few weeks ago, Myers contemplated not running for the championship at the weekly track Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem. Winning the season opener may have changed his mind.

"You know, over here you kind of have to take what this place gives you" he says.

" Right now this gives a head start on everything. We came over here to win the race and the points follows it, so that's how we look at it. The ultimate goal now is to win the championship, however to do that you have to win races" he said.

Myers picked up h...

Gray Garrison: Continuing a Heritage

by Skip Wall
He looks out over the empty stadium that will hold 17000 screaming fans. Gray Garrison is the track promoter for Winston Salem's Bowman Gray Stadium. He wonders what will hold for the stadium's 60th season. How will the current economy affect this seasons racing action, claimed by many as the still the most exciting of them all? How will the drivers adapt to the new double file restart?

Garrison has a lot on his mind as the stadium opens its season this weekend at the historic track, a quarter mile flat track that goes around a football field. He hopes that the stadiums make over over the past season will have an e...

Brunnhoelzl Follows Family Path To The Race Track

ASHEBORO, N.C. – If you walk up and down pit road at any NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event and ask the drivers and crews about who they think is going to be the next future star on the horizon, more than a few people will point towards George Brunnhoelzl III as the driver to watch.

Racing isn’t just a hobby for Brunnhoelzl – it’s the only way of life the 25 year-old resident of Mooresville, N.C. has ever known.

“My family has always been in racing and now I’m a third generation driver,” Brunnhoelzl explained. “My grandfather and my dad raced Modifieds, so I grew up watching them and wanting to do what they were doing. I’d say ...

ASHEBORO, N.C. (April 12, 2008) – Brian Loftin picked up his first victory of the 2008 season as the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified completed a doubleheader of two races in two days.

Loftin took the lead for the final time with 10 laps remaining in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 and won by a .345-second margin over runner-up Andy Seuss.

“If the circumstances would have turned out a little different I really think this could be our second win of the season,” said Loftin. “We needed a run like this because last night at Ace was disappointing because we had such a good car and didn’t get the finish we probably deserved. “

ALTAMAHAW, N.C. (April 11, 2008) – If the first two races are any indication, defending NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion L.W. Miller is going to be the man to beat once again this season.
