| Super Cup Stock Car Series Rolling Right Along | by Skip Wall In a matter of weeks, Speedweeks will be upon us in Daytona. The cabin fever will be over. By 5-7 PM come February 17th a winner will be named in Daytona.
The urge to go racing will be upon those who want to go race for a hobby. For some it will be the beginning to showcase their skills in the newly formed Super Cup Stock Car Series.
Joe Schmaling, the director of competition for the steel bodied car series assures us that things are rolling along just fine. In fact its going better than they thought it would.
"Everyday something new happens, sponsors for products-services-sign up to be part of our series" he says.
Schmaling says that the recent PRI show only helped the series get its name out in the open. "The PRI show was a biggy for us,it brought a lot of attention to the series. Drivers are starting to send their requests for numbers.and the interest in the series is better then we could have hoped for."
The series is starting to take shape. Already Super Cup Stock Car Series has nine dates on its schedule starting March 8th at Tri County Speedway in Hudson NC. There could more dates coming as the series is still negotiating with other tracks.
Schmaling may in the next few weeks have a title sponsor lined up. That sponsorship would really excel this new up and coming series. The series already has female drivers, rookies and veterans ready for the season opener.
The series doesn't have that many drivers already signed on paper, however once Speedweeks is over, it usually generates interest to go racing and dust off the tools for a sport drivers love.
"Our list of sponsors is growing daily. Our first race will have 4 or 5 different divisions running with us" says Schmaling. Schmaling goes on to say that Tri County will be the home track for its first season and will host at least three events.
The Super Cup Stock Car Series will be managed by a five member Auxiliary board. The board consists of Joe Schmaling, Michael Kurkowski, Lonnie Rush Sr., Mart Nesbitt, and Joe Harrison Sr. Its these guys who have the say so as to what goes on in the series much different than other racing series. All five members have a wealth of knowledge between themselves and its the hard work and dedication that these guys brings to the table that will make this series succeed. They couldn't have picked a better panel because each has a different aspect of what it takes to make it in racing.
Schmaling is an out and out businessman that has a great wealth of knowledge in the racing technical world. Nesbitt is a banker by trade, has the business knowledge.
In fact he was the announcer for one of the series two exhibition races last season. He is also aided by his father who is a lawyer. Nesbitt will have Megan Reitenour, a female driver from Miamisburg OH in his cars this year fielded by his father. Kurkowski and Rush run racing teams and can bring the rookie drivers to the table. Harrison is a true independent racing pioneer who has raced at most levels of racing. His knack of knowing what life is like for the little man, is what this series is all about. Put all this together and you have this board that takes this series very serious and see it as a good series to go race in.
To start a new series is a major task. And at a time where the economy isn't the best, escalating costs of fuel and the demise of short track racing makes it an even harder task to get this series going.
But one thing for sure is that the Super Cup Stock Car Series is up and running and can only get better. Another thing is that you can be sure that other racing series, track promoters and sponsors are taking a hard look at this series. And its only a matter of weeks away when cabin fever is over and the urge and hunger to go racing will be upon those who love to race as a hobby. Have an opinion on
