Riggs Racing To Name New Driver

by Skip Wall
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (January 16, 2008) – Riggs Racing plans to announce the driver of the Advance Auto Parts Dodge for the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour season Friday afternoon at the historic Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem NC.

Riggs Racing based out of Martinsville Va. headed by Jeff Riggs and his father David, won the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship in 2005 and 2006 with driver Junior Miller. from nearby Danbury NC, and the team has posted the most career wins in the tour’s three season.

However the team struggled last year to a fourth place finish in the point standings with only one win under its belt, resulting in the team splitting up during the off season.

Riggs Racing has been a fixture in the Whelen Modified Series having run in the past in both series divisions with Miller, Tim Arre, Johnny Bryant and Melvin "Puddin" Swisher.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour is scheduled to compete at Bowman Gray Stadium Aug. 1-2 in the Advance Auto Parts 199. The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour opens March 22 at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, North Carolina.
