Heritage Motorsports Moves Race Team to Mooresville

Mooresville, N.C.-The USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division Title could be a reality for Derek Kale and the No. 22n team, in 2008. The team is committed to winning this year and has moved race operations to Mooresville Raceway Park, and brought on Steve Bird full-time as team manager.

During the 2006 and 2007 seasons, Heritage Motorsports leased their cars from Laughlin Performance. After Mansfield last year, the team decided to go out on its own, and moved their operation to one of Heritage Equipment's locations in Ashland, Ky. After Iowa, the team started making plans to move to Mooresville for the 2008 season.

"This move will be good for us," Derek Kale said. "The team has incurred a lot of expense changing locations over the last few years, but that's what we had to do until we could get to Mooresville. The move will actually save us money, over the long term. "Birdie" and Cody keep the shop really clean, the location is great, and with all of our equipment, it's perfect for building and working on our race cars."

When the Heritage team moved from last year after Mansfield, Cody Sauls and Josh Stuckey came with them. But they needed a veteran voice and pursued Steve Bird, a name well-known in the racing community, to help them on the weekends. Now, with the team in Mooresville, and closer to "Birdie", he decided to seize the opportunity the team offered him, and came aboard full-time. Cody Sauls is the crew chief, and works well with "Birdie." The pit crew, hand picked by "Birdie", has already started practicing and will be buffed for the first race in April.

Along with all the changes the Heritage Motorsports team has made of late, there will be a few things familiar on the No. 22n Car, namely Laughlin Performance chassis and Gaerte Engines. Mike Laughlin, Jr. just built the team two new cars, and Joe Gaerte, who built their engines in '06 and '07, built them three more new engines for 2008.

HERITAGE TRUCK LEASING, Gaerte Engines, Laughlin Performance, and Wraps, Ink. will join longtime, primary sponsor, HERITAGE EQUIPMENT on the car, for the 2008 Pro Cup Season.

"To sum it up in two words, I'm excited," Kale said. "This year we're going to win some races and have a lot of fun. The 2008 schedule takes us to 3 new tracks, and I'm really looking forward to the challenge. I'm ready for it, and so are the guys. I couldn't ask for a better team of people to work with. We're going to have a great year."
