| New Series Unveils This Weekend | by Skip Wall For independent drivers, this could be the beginning of a new horizon. The same could be said for young talent and female talent as well. The new horizons unveil Saturday as the new Super Cup Stock Car Series is set to open at Tri County Speedway in Hudson NC.
The race will feature 100 laps in former steel bodied cars banned from the ProCup Series. But going with these steel bodied cars are the true independents that supported the ProCup but can no longer afford to run that series. Super Cup Stock Cars can run for much less and race to have fun and be competitive at the same time. It goes back to the grass roots of racing or where the Nationwide Series was about ten years ago.
The series is made up of a 5 man advisory board made up of former officials, drivers and car owners. Joe Schmaling is the new series director and expects well over twenty entries for this weeks outing.
The series has had a lot of interest the past few weeks and the entry list could swell as the word gets around and the competition gets even keener.
The new series recieved rave reviews when it visited Hickory Speedway and Tri County late last year for 50 lap exhibition races won by Dexter Canipe Jr. and young Ryan Miller.
The new series consists of a lot of talent coming from Pro Cup, development teams, youth and female drivers. Veteran Lonnie Rush will become an official in the new series while his son Lonnie Rush Jr. will become a crew chief in developing young Ryan Miller. Martin Nesbitt has a knack for developing female drivers and will have young Megan Reitenour in his cars. Joe Harrison Jr. has been a regular in ProCup for years. He will continue to run ProCup but is putting his son Jody in a Super Cup car this season. Harrison is also on the advisory board this year. Super Cup Stock Cars has ten races on tap for this season.
In addition to the 100 lap Super Cup race, there will be races for the Street Stock, future mini stock and the ever popular enduro cars. Practice gets under way at 11:30 a.m. and the first race rolls off at 3 p.m. The weather is predicted as being good.
The Super Car Stock Car race is one of the first series to get rolling this season and drivers and fans are eager to shake off the Cabin fever blues. Have an opinion on
