| Whelen Southern Modified Race Rained Out Again |  by Skip Wall There has been three races on the schedule for the Whelen Southern Modified Series thus this season. Rain has now canceled two out the three events. The Kevin Whitaker 150 scheduled at Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina for Saturday night has been postponed due to the forecasted inclement weather.
NASCAR and Greenville Speedway officials called the race early Friday afternoon after weather forecasters are calling for rain most of the weekend. Last weekends race at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly NC was also canceled after steady rain in the morning.
Both events are scheduled to be run later in the fall.
The seasons only race so far this season, was won by defending Whelen Southern Modified champ LW Miller of Mooresville NC at Caraway Speedway.
Two races are scheduled next weekend at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw NC on Friday and back to Caraway Speedway on Saturday. Caraway is located in Asheboro NC.
It was at Caraways season opener a few weeks ago that drew 33 entries for 26 positions. That race, visited by some of the Whelen northern drivers, was as competitive as any Whelen Modified race in the last few seasons. In fact it took 82 laps before the first car was lapped.

Several of the higher NASCAR officials were on hand to help see the Southern Series get started. NASCAR is going back to its roots in efforts to revive the weekly short tracks under the NASCAR banner.
Moreover, the fierce competition of this years Modified crop of drivers is sure to promise some the best racing action yet. The modified cars are the most powerful cars in NASCAR. If only the rain will let up.
With the cancellation of the Greenville race, it also allows the teams to stay home and watch the final four in which North Carolina is still in the tournament. Most of the Southern drivers are from in and around the Carolina region. Have an opinion on
