Late Pass Gets Loftin a Win at Caraway

ASHEBORO, N.C. (April 12, 2008) – Brian Loftin picked up his first victory of the 2008 season as the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified completed a doubleheader of two races in two days.

Loftin took the lead for the final time with 10 laps remaining in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 and won by a .345-second margin over runner-up Andy Seuss.

“If the circumstances would have turned out a little different I really think this could be our second win of the season,” said Loftin. “We needed a run like this because last night at Ace was disappointing because we had such a good car and didn’t get the finish we probably deserved. “

Loftin has five of his seven career victories at Caraway and has won three of the last four events at the .455-mile track.

He finished 17th in Friday night’s race at Ace Speedway.

“I wanted to hang my head down after last night but all the guys on the team wouldn’t let me and I have to thank them for that,” Loftin said. “I just hope things keep getting better from here. I just have to thank Andy Seuss for racing me as clean as he did.”

Seuss started second and led a race-high 137 laps.

Rounding out the top-five were Frank Fleming, George Brunnhoelzl and Burt Myers. L.W. Miller winner of first two races of the season struggled to a seventh-place finish. Miller leads Ronnie Silk, who was sixth, by 36 points.

Burt Myers circled the Caraway short track at a speed of 101.117 mph to win his first Coors Light Pole Award of the season, but started seventh following the post-qualifying redraw. He finished seventh.

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour returns to action next Saturday night at Caraway.
