Another Rain Out For Whelen Southern Modified Series

by Skip Wall

Last year the North Carolina region was in a severe drought. Still is in some ways. However mother nature yet again postponed another Whelen Southern Modified Series tour event. This time it was Caraway Speedway in Asheboro NC.

There has been six events on the Whelen schedule thus far this year. Three of them have been rained out.

NASCAR officials are running out of dates in which to reschedule. The rained out Greenville Pickens race a couple of weeks ago will not be made up. However officials indicated that they are looking at a make up date at Caraway around the end of May or June. Nothing has been confirmed.

The rain out couldn't have come at a better time for driver George Brunnhoelzle III. During the practice session that the modifieds did get in, Brunnhoelzle crashed hard into the wall. He was uninjured.

Several modified teams gave up a crew member to help Brunnhoelzle try and repair his damaged racer.

The modified racers now turn their direction towards the Tuscon 200 scheduled next week at the season opener for Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem.

Bowman Gray is the oldest running weekly short track in America.
