Entry List Grows for Ace ASA Modified Race

(King, NC): The entry list for the ASA / Southern Modified Race Tour event this Friday night at Ace Speedway in Altmahaw, NC continues to grow with some of the biggest names in Southern Modified racing being added to the list daily.

Verbal entries received today include defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Champion, L. W. Miller in the Baker Plumbing Modified. Miller added his name to the list today along with defending ASA / SMRT Mod Champ, Burt Myers. Myers entered his JRC Investments Chevy along with his brother Jason in the DMC Auto Exchange Mod. Frank Fleming tossed his hat into the ring today as well. Fleming’s brother Chris and nephew Luke are possible entries. Discussions with Melvin “Puddin” Swisher today have many-time Modified Champion, Junior Miller on the list for Friday night. This brings the confirmed entry list to 24 cars for the special event at the 4/10 mile oval.

New faces and ASA/SMRT regulars dot the landscape this season. Brian King from nearby Gibsonville, NC heads the list of “regulars”. King finished the 2007 season deadlocked with Myers only to lose the title in a tie-breaker. King has many wins at the Altamahaw, NC oval including one in the NASCAR Whelen Modified tour. Competition for King will be stiff as another ACE regular, Rodney Cook, will shed the fenders of his Late Model Stock Car in favor of the open wheels of a second Jay Foley entry. Foley also began his Modified career at ACE in the tracks Modified division. Josh Nichols competes weekly in the ACE Mods and will be on hand with his “Tour” car as well on the 23rd. Nichols had his “tour” car on hand this past Friday for some hot-laps and display for the Ace fans to get a close-up look at what makes the cars tick. Jason Trinchere from Sherrills Ford, NC has a new Troyer Modified ready for the event as well as an ACE Modified that is ready to roll.

Other ASA/SMRT regulars with entries on file include Kevin Wilson, Rick Knapp, Jr. Brody Jones, 2007 ASA/SMRT “Rookie of the Year”, John Lain, Greg Butcher, Scott Rigney, Dean Ward, Susan Harwell and Rick Kuiken, Jr. Several other “07” competitors are expected to be on hand including Kevin Powell and George Brunnhoelzl, III. Brunnhoelzl had one of the cars to beat back in April when the Mods last visited ACE.

Newcomers, Stuart Lycett from St. Petersburg, FL. Sam Beam and Cal Snyder are expected to make their first ACE start.

Other races on this special Memorial Day weekend include a 50 lapper for the ACE Mods, a 50 lap Mini Stock special, 30 laps for the XTREME Cars and 20 laps for the East Coast Flathead Fords. 300 laps of racing action all on the same card.
