| Myers Leads Points, But Loses Appeal | Although Burt Myers is surely reeling from the results of the USG Modified 50, he can at least take solace in the fact that he is now on top of the points ladder for the Farm Bureau Insurance Modified Series.
NASCAR Officials reviewed the situation. According to Bowman Gray Stadium Race Procedures, the caution flag or the caution lights can indicate a caution, so a caution was indeed called. The field freezes at that point - and Brown was in the lead when the field froze. Officials award the victory to Brown and gave Myers second place.
Burt Myers protested the call made by NASCAR Race Director John Horton. NASCAR Competition Administrator Jerry Cook upheld the decision made by Horton.
Myers slips into the points lead with his second place finish. Bobby Hutchens, who had won the previous event and held the points lead entering the USG Modified 50, finished fifth and drops back to second in the points.
Tim Brown had entered the USG Modified 50 with a fifth place points standing after involvement in a wreck during the previous week's Carolina Wood Floors 100. Hard work from his crew paid off with Brown's win, moving him from fifth place in the points up to third.
This Saturday night is Whelen One Dollar Ladies' Night with the Whelen 100 for the Modifieds, the second race of the year with the lineup determined by random draw - and the infamous double-file restart rule will be in effect. The Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions will also race. Ticket gates open at 6 PM for practice runs, qualifying is at 7:20 PM, and the first race is at 8:00 PM this Saturday night.
