| Super Cup Finale Set For Sunday at Hickory | by Skip Wall Some people doubted it, however the Super Cup Stock Car Series will finish its first ever season this Sunday at the famed Hickory Speedway, the birthplace of racings stars.
The Super Cup will share the track with twin 75 lap races for the ISCARS Series, which is the former Daytona Dash cars, along with the Southeast Mini Stock Cars.
The ISCARS race will feature former NASCAR star Geoff Bodine, competing in the twin races.
If thats not enough for your racing desires, there is also a Stunt Show scheduled on the same bill.
Young Ryan Miller of South Charleston Ohio holds a slim 32 point lead over fellow Ohio female sensation, Megan Reitenour. Miller is on a roll having won the last two Super Cup events while Reitenour has slipped in the points battle.
Should Miller and Reitenour falter. veteran Jimmie Crabtree is only 59 points behind the leader. However Crabtree will need some extra entries to pull off that feat. Moreover, there are some 21 entries for the season finale.
Miller and Reitenour have had some run ins this past year and have had some bad finishes from it. Both are rookie drivers but Miller has shown a lot of talent the last two races and has settled down pleasing his car owner Lonnie Rush.
Track champions Jason Minogna (Jennerstown) PA. and Harvey Harrison From Ona. W VA. have their own ideas on winning and have sent in entries for the Hickory race. Neither have competed in this series this year. There is some other entries expected as well for this track where a lot of NASCAR starts were born such as Harry Gant, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Issacc and Morgan Shepherd.
For series director Joe Schmaling, he couldn't be happier. The series will end its season at the track that the series was born on. Super Cup ran an exhibition race here last year won by Dexter Canipe Jr. Schmaling would love to see the series end each season on this small track shaped like a football.
The series completed all its goals this year and ran some 10 races in various states this year.
The Super Cup Stock Car Series is already making plans for next year. Schmaling says there may some some announcements coming in just a few weeks.
For now Schmaling and company just want to get this race out of the way. This is the first time the series will be sharing the track with the ISCARS Series. Some think that these types of events will improve the racing interests of ALL.
The track opens Sunday at 10 a.m. The first race gets underway at 2 p.m.
