| ASA Modified Race at Hickory Cancelled | Officials of the American Speed Association sanctioned Southern
Modified Race Tour announced cancellation of the “Chiller 150” scheduled for November 1st at History Motor Speedway.
“It is with much regret I had to cancel this event” said SMRT Director, Randy Myers. “We felt we had adequate sponsorship to make the season ending event happen but I received a call this morning from the primary sponsor that they would not be able to follow through with the sponsorship for the event. The downturn in the economy and the resulting slide of stocks on Wall Street have hit a lot of people hard and the sponsor was one of those suffering badly during the recent slide”, Myers said.
“I really appreciate Sherry Clifton with HMS working with us on this. The announcement hit the papers in Hickory this morning that she is leaving the speedway to pursue other ventures. Her absence there will leave a big void. She has been instrumental in keeping the track headed in the right direction and I know everyone there will miss her. Kevin Piercy will assume the role Clifton has filled for the past eight years on November 2nd. We wish him well”.
“I want to also thank all the car owners, drivers and crew members who have
supported the Southern Modified Race Tour this year. It’s been an up and down
season for everyone due to weather and scheduling conflicts. There isn’t much
any tour or track can do as far as the weather is concerned but the SMRT
schedule for 2009 will not need to worry about those scheduling conflicts.
 The
majority of the schedule is in place and should be available to teams by
mid-November”, Myers said.
